Minutes of the Madoc & District Chamber of Commerce

1.  Call to Order by Rob Price.
 2.  Introductions:  Rob Price, Vice Chairman

3.  Additions to & Approval of Agenda - agenda approved 
4.  Presentation by the Madoc Market Vendors:  Marion Martin, on behalf
of the vendors, stated that the market would start on the Saturday of
the May 24th weekend and run from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Richard Peck is to arrange the entertainment, Mary Andrews will be the
secretary/treasurer and Wayne Reid & Isabella Shaw will also help with
the organization of the Market.  The Chamber assured Mrs. Martin that
the time between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm every Saturday would be allotted to
the Farmers Market and that anyone wishing to join would be directed to
Mrs. Martin.  She then asked about highway signage,  a bulletin board
affixed to the market building, the hiring of a town crier, and parking
and since none of these matters came under the Chamber of Commerce area
of influence, she was directed to the municipal council.  There was also
a question of murals for the market area and she was referred to Kelly
Foxton of the Artisan's Guild who had offered to take care of the matter
last summer.  The Market Vendors would also like close co-operation with
Chamber of Commerce coordinator, when the position is filled.
5.  Minutes of the last meeting:  moved by Ellen Wilson and Seconded by
Judy Smith that the minutes be approved as circulated.

6.  Business arising. 
i.  Bob Cloes and Peter Gooderham are in discussions about the embroidery of the existing flags
and John McDonnell has been approached about the construction of new flag poles for the Market.
ii.  Comfort Country:  the new intern for the project, Tara Treverton was introduced.  An invitation 
was also issued, on behalf of the Comfort Country Planning Group, for all interested business people
to attend a meeting Feb. 8th, 2005, 7:30 pm at the Stirling Festival Theatre.  A presentation will be made
by the Rue Principal Foundation, a main street redevelopment group based in Quebec, that will help
co-ordinate and renew socio/economic development
and revitalization in our communities.  A copy of the announcement is appended to these minutes.
iii.  Brenda Rump is to contacted to get the files for the Santa Claus parade for 2005.
7.  Correspondence.  
i.  Christmas Card for the Artisans' Guild.
ii.  Thank You from Brenda Rump.
iii.  Newsletter from the Chamber of Commerce Group Insurance Plan.
iv.  Grant application forms for "Celebrate Canada" festivities, July 1st.
v.  Registration forms for the North Bay Gift Show.
8.  Financial Report:  There is $938.01 in the bank and we have 45 paid up members. 
9.  New Business.  
i.  Hiring of the new coordinator for the Chamber.
Deadline for applications was January 15th.  Interviews will take place this week.  The municipality 
has approved funding for this position. The suggestion was also made that the money received from
dues should also be set aside for a major project.  The Chamber will be setting up a wish list for its
members so please submit your ideas.
ii.  Networking meetings will be set up for spring and again in the fall.
iii.  It was decided that future meeting will be held on the third Tuesday of each month except December.
iv.  Diane Valentine, of the C.H.S.S. Guidance department has a co-op student available for placement 
with the Chamber.  It was decided to decline the offer at this time.
10.  Next Meeting:  February 15th, 2005, 7:30 pm at the Madoc Library & Cultural Centre.
