3. Approval of Agenda: 1. Moved by Ellen Wilson & seconded by Shelby Kramp that the agenda be approved. Carried.
4. Minutes of the January 23rd meeting: Moved by Ellen Wilson & seconded by Judy Smith that the minutes be approved. Carried
5. Business arising from minutes: None.
6. Correspondence: i. Letter from Centre Hastings appointing Shelby Kramp as the council Rep. to the Chamber of Commerce. ii. E-mail from Wendy Chesworth, 55 Plus Magazine, announcing a new local feature called “Backyard Hero”. The Chamber has been asked to forward the name of any individual who has been a true community champion. ii. E-mail from Jim Pedersen, Hastings Stewardship council Coordinator concerning the “Sustainable Living Symposium” 2007, March 31, Loyalist College . There will be information presented on alternate energy, healthy homes and ecological farming.
7. Business arising from correspondence: None
8. Financial Report: Cheques totaling $6000.00 have been received from Community Futures and Centre Hastings as a down payment for the new banners and poles for the Madoc Market and the wings for the Welcome signs. After payments were made to the fabricating businesses the bank balance is $5610.01 ($800.00 of this balance is sign money yet to be disbursed). There are 59 paid up members to date.
9. Old Business: i. Madoc & District Main Street Initiative: As part of the “Branding” Phase the new logos are being reviewed by committee and the process should be complete in a few weeks. Contracts are ready for the muralists to sign, some work is already being done on this project. Tom Simpson has offered to contact the High School to arrange a trash bash late in April. Tom Moore from Tim Horton's has volunteered to supply free supplies, coffee and treats to the students that day.
ii. Community Radio: Jim Bakker has put together a request for funding ($2250.00 each) from Community Futures and Centre Hastings for CKOL Radio. There is still a need for participants and advertisers.
iii. Village Events: When Home Hardware has their grand opening, it is hoped this can be made a big community event including live broadcasts from the site by CKOL radio. The order for the banners for the Market Square have been finalized and the flags and frames should be ready early spring.
iv. Comfort Country ... At a Glance: Mandy McBeath has been collecting events for publication, mostly from Madoc and area. More is required from the other Comfort Country Communities. She has also prepared drafts for tourist brochures for the area.
v. Service Club Signage: John McDonnell will fabricate the wings for the Welcome Signs that will house the signs for local service clubs. Two groups are already on side.
vi. Economic Development: Rita Byveld from OMAFRA and Andrew Redden have created a work book for evaluating opportunities in a community that will be of use to the Chamber in encouraging new business. Jim Bakker is also encouraging the Municipality to initiate a community improvement programme to help business owners bring their properties up to standards.
10. New Business: i. There will be a breakfast meeting Monday, February 26 th , 7:30 a.m. at Popadops, cost $2.00. Please notify Jim Bakker A.S.A.P. if you plan to attend.
ii. Service Excellence Programme: Tentatively scheduled for April 16 th with Andrew Redden as facilitator. Location has yet to be confirmed.
11. Next meeting: This will be the Annual General Meeting to be held at the Baptist Church , March 20 th , 6:30 p.m. This is a dinner meeting. There will be an election of officers, so if you have anyone to nominate for a position, please contact Jim Bakker A.S.A.P.
