Madoc – The annual skatepark yard sale went off with the usual giant splash in the community. Great numbers of terrific used items found their way into the sale and the cascade of customers rolling through got some really great deals while supporting the skatepark.

Committee member Judy Smith has hosted the giant yard sale at her home every year to support her favourite place. The yard sale did not disappoint her earning over $1,000.00 this year.

This year Judy got a big surprise when some guests dropped in on May 16. Although the sale was rained away the giving did not end as Nat Moraal, Anthony Wannamaker and Chris Kelly stopped by to present her with their donation to the park. The young men have been working for the last little while delivering papers for the Shield EMC.

They presented a series of uncashed pay cheques to Judy totalling $272.42.

Judy said, “We really appreciate this huge donation from these young men.”

The yard sale is over for this year but the left over good items will be donated to the next community yard sale.

Judy said, “I need one of our customers to come back as they are missing an important piece to the lawn chair they purchased. There is a stick needed to hold the fabric on the chair and it was forgotten when they left the yard sale. I have it here for them if they wish to return to get it.”

The grand opening of the park is coming up soon while fund raising is really just getting started for the park and arts centre. The committee is currently selling raffle tickets with some exciting prizes to be won. The first prize is a catered dinner for 25 at the arts centre, second prize is 1 full week at skatepark camp and the third prize is a splash park birthday party. Tickets are available from committee members and at the park but if you do not find them just drop in to the TD Bank and ask for Judy Smith. The draw for the prizes will be held during the grand opening on June 28.
