Minutes of the Madoc & District Chamber of Commerce

1. Call to Order by Grant Ketcheson, President.

3. Agenda approved with the addition of membership report under
financial report.

4. Presentation by Nancy Robinson, Centre Hastings Support Network, on
their fund raising events in December. A dance is to be held Dec. 4th
at the Kiwanis Centre featuring an "Elvis" band. This impersonator is
from Foxborough and has won several awards at international
competitions. Grant Ketcheson is to MC. There will also be a crafters
show in the Kiwanis Centre that afternoon. Nancy hopes to make this
event an annual festival to start the holiday season with the
cooperation of other groups in the area. Funds raised from the dance
will go to the support network, which manages the local food banks,
provides transportation and support for those who need assistance to
live independently in the community.

5. Presentation by Carmen Donato, Skatepark Committee on park
progress. The cement is now being poured and the industrial park sign
is to be removed and a Skatepark sign put in its place. Jim Smith, of
Campbellford Monument, has designed the inukshuk that will recognize
individual contributors to the park and, when completed, a statue of a
skateboarder will be placed on the top. The bunny park will not be
completed until spring and it will also have playground equipment near
it, some of which will be accessible to handicapped children. Jane
Donato is forming a committee to implement this part of the plan. Mr.
Donato feels that $350,000 will be needed to finish the park, $225,000
has already been committed. A fair amount of money has been donated
from the Belleville area with the rest coming from local donations. The
Youth committee has raised $21,000 of the $25,000 that Mr. Donato has
asked from them. The Skatepark Committee is looking at participating in
the Christmas Festival by helping to organize a Grand Opening for the
Village Market in early December.

6. & 7. Minutes of the last meeting were read. Moved by Ellen Wilson
and seconded by Judy Smith that the minutes be accepted. Carried.

8. Business arising from minutes - none.

9. & 10. Correspondence: Invitation to an Ecotourism Conference in
Haliburton on November 12th. - no action.

11. Financial Report - Judy Smith reported a bank balance of $639.52,
with the insurance being completely paid. New Members welcomed are
Tressa Kirby (Little Shop of Flowers), Richard Chapman (Christochet),
Jean & John Mcdonnell (McDonnell Millwright Services), and Betty
Vandervoort (Blue Church at Cooper).

12 Old Business: i. Remembrance Day - Brenda Rump is working with the
Legion again this year to set up a special display at the Library.
This will continue to November 25th. After this date the MAdoc Artisans
guild will set up revolving displays in one section of the cultural
centre.
ii. Santa Claus Parade will be held on
November 27th. The 8th Wing Pipe band from Trenton may also join the
parade. Letters have gone out to area businesses asking for donations.
iii. Discussions concerning a Gospel
Festival to be held at the Madoc Township Hall next year are underway.
Linda Dixon, of the Wesleyan & Free Methodist Church, feels there needs
to be more involvement from area ministers for it to happen.
iv. The East Coast Folk Festival plans are
on hold: the main contact, Bev Wannamaker, has been ill. The name of
Clayton Butts, Spanish Bay, Newfoundland, has been given as a possible
contact.
v. Richard Peck spoke on behalf of the
Madoc Marketers. They will join the Chamber as a group, and already
they are planning for next year's market, complete with entertainment
and a Grand Opening in the spring. The Marketers will be an autonomous
subcommittee operating under the Chamber of Commerce umbrella for
insurance purposes.
vi. The Market Square project is nearing
completion. Landscaping has yet to be done.
vii. No updates on the mural proposed for
the side wall of "Changes"
viii. Rob Price, on behalf of Community
Futures announced that funding amounting to $1.6 million dollars has
been released for Eastern Ontario and it must be allocated by March
15th. Part of this money will be made available as no interest loans
for building facade improvements. Bob Cloes, Community Futures,
Bancroft has the details.
xi. Doors Open Ontario will be holding an
information session in Bloomfield on October 28th. Rob Price and Brenda
Rump Will attend.
xii. No action has yet been taken on having
the market square flags embroidered with the Community Futures logo, so
that the Chamber might be reimbursed for part of their cost by Community
Futures.

13. New business - none.

Cultural Centre.
