Old Business Canada Day Celebration Update Jim spoke to Kelly Foxton and the information was not possible to get funding on time Market Square Committee can move forward with this possible that some other group might take it up as we get closer to the date 200 balloon red & white will be ordered by Judy to be handed out to the Merchants as giveaways, and with pins and flags. Comfort Country Business Directory Update (Jason Danielis) Some businesses were left out, and some kinks need to be ironed out. There does seem to be a general satisfaction among merchants. Jim was pleased with the distribution, Grant had a customer call him after seeing ad in Comfort Country Publication Madoc & District Main Street Initiative update (Jim Bakker) Madoc Team - Coordinator Andrew Redden has been hired for June 1. Andrew is doing his postgraduate work on Rural Revitalization. All Communities are moving forward Jim discussed the "Quick Hit" - Visibility, feel good accomplishment in early stages Madoc's quick hits iclude:flowers for Market Square, Signs in display box with regards to bookings, a bakery run by Nancy Robinson (10-2 M,W,F) Business Survey - data base - character - of all business in Madoc. What's here, and What's missing? Economic Development Committee report (John McDonnell) John has been meeting with the Moira Lake Homeowners Association, the press, and Doug Parks to discuss development in the area. E.D.C. Meeting next Thursday, May 25. Grant Suggested we get Centre Hastings and Township on the same page, to facillitate development and communication between the two entities. John will fill out the Municipal Readiness for Economical Development survey to help identify steps, guidelines, and investor questions. Each community must have an offcial plan for developing, taxation, etc. John is looking to trade shows for visibility Possible Kitchen cabinetry builder has applied for all permits. Should the Chamber of Commerce write a letter of support? It was agreed that since developer had applied for all necessary permits, it was not necessary for Chamber to get involved. John will design new logo for M&S Chamber of Commerce for letterhead & business cards. Chamber of Commerce Breakfast meeting June 1 (Jim Bakker) Please RSVP Possible future dinner meetings 13. Market Square Vendors Association doing a good job, according to Jim. Grant suggested we have a small Midway like Riverfest - Jim asked for contact info. Grant trying to contact Dave Chappelle for his candy floss machine. Tressa suggested possible battle of the bands - she will co-ordinate with Angie Smith, and other recruits for help Ideas to increase usage All Saturdays are all booked with events with one exception. 14. New Business CH Website - Send Change information to Bob Foster or Larry Metz Skate park - bunny park starting next week, canteen started Small Business Seminars (Jim Bakker) Mail Drop by mid-June for Breakfast seminar, first seminar to focus on Marketing. Soliciting business for ideas or what they would like to see covered. Certified Professional Purchaser - Jean McDonnell willing to talk about setting businesses up and government agency compliance.
