Fireworks Safety Announcement From Centre Hastings Fire Department

Dear Residents of Centre Hastings,

With the upcoming events and celebrations, it's important to prioritize safety when it comes to fireworks. As your Fire Department, we're dedicated to ensuring everyone in our community enjoys a safe and enjoyable experience.

Here are some key fireworks safety tips:

1. Legal Compliance:
• Only purchase fireworks from authorized vendors.

2. Location Safety:
• Use fireworks only in open areas away from buildings, vehicles, and flammable materials.
• Maintain a safe distance from spectators, typically recommended at least 20 meters.

3. Handling and Setting Up:
• Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the label.
• Only adults should handle and ignite fireworks. Never permit children to handle or light fireworks.

4. Safety Equipment:
• Keep a bucket of water or a fire extinguisher nearby in case of emergencies.
• Never attempt to relight a "dud" firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in water.

5. Personal Safety:
• Never hold lit fireworks in your hands or position your body over them.
• Wear eye protection to prevent injury and avoid loose clothing that could catch fire.

6. Post-Event Clean-Up:
• Properly dispose of all fireworks debris by soaking them in water before disposal.
• Clean up all materials and ensure the site is free of any hazards.
