Important Update: Slide Closures at Centre Hastings Park

We want to keep our community informed about a recent development at Centre Hastings Park.

Both of the large tube slides—installed brand new just last year—are currently closed for safety reasons. Last week, a support brace on one of the slides broke. Our staff acted quickly to close the slide and contact the installer. Today, a similar issue was observed starting to form on the second slide, so it has also been closed as a precaution.

We’ve been in direct contact with the installer, and warranty repair work is already in motion. Parts for the first slide are expected to arrive around August 18, but the installer is working on sending someone sooner to assess the situation and possibly implement a safe temporary fix.

The cause appears to be equipment failure, not vandalism. The slides have passed recent inspections—including a third-party review this spring—and no issues were previously noted.

We know this is disappointing during a busy summer season, but public safety is our top priority. Staff have secured the slides and canteen staff have been updated to help answer visitor questions.
