New Water Tower/Standpipe Funding Announcement

The Ontario government is investing $4,798,363.00 in water infrastructure in The Municipality of Centre Hastings. The funding is being delivered through the province’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF), a stream of the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program (MHIP). The funding will be used for construction of a new water tower/standpipe in the Village of Madoc that will be able to provide up to 1,107 new homes with water servicing.
The MHIP is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario and includes historic investments in housing- and community-enabling infrastructure that will help municipalities deliver the core infrastructure needed, such as roads and water systems, to lay the foundation for new homes in communities across the province.
"The Municipality is growing, and this funding will help to ensure that we can meet the housing needs of current and future generations,” said Tom Deline, Mayor of Centre Hastings. “We will continue working with our provincial partners to get shovels in the ground here. This investment will directly support us in delivering housing and housing-enabling infrastructure that is desperately needed in our community. We’re grateful for the Ontario government’s support as we work to do our part even in rural Ontario to tackle the housing crisis and build a stronger future for residents of all ages and abilities. The Municipality provides potable water supply to parts of the Township of Madoc through a cross-border servicing agreement. This critical investment will ensure a reliable, safe water supply to support both of our community’s growth and prosperity for years to come.”
The new standpipe will be built at the existing water tower location at 119 McKenzie Street. Construction will get underway in 2026 after a comprehensive design and tender process is completed.
