Today, MPP Ric Bresee announced the Ontario government is investing up to $4,692,075 to reconstruct necessary wastewater infrastructure in Centre Hastings. The funding comes from the province’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS), which has increased by $700 million for a total of $875 million to support access to safe drinking water, housing, job creation and protection for communities in the event of extreme weather events.

The MHIP-HSWS funding will be used to rehabilitate and expand the sanitary sewer trunk in the Village of Madoc.

“As our Municipality grows, this funding will help ensure we can meet the housing needs of both current residents and future generations,” said Tom Deline, Mayor of Centre Hastings. “We will continue to work with our provincial partners to move projects forward and bring new housing to our community. This investment supports the housing-enabling infrastructure that rural communities like ours urgently need. We appreciate the Province’s continued support as we do our part to address the housing crisis and build a more sustainable and inclusive future for residents of all ages. Through our cross-border servicing agreement, Centre Hastings provides wastewater collection services to parts of the Township of Madoc as well. This critical investment supports a safe and reliable wastewater system that benefits both communities and positions us for long-term growth.”

The sanitary sewer project will occur between St Lawrence Street West  and the Madoc Village Lagoon. More details will be shared in the coming months. Work is expected to get underway in 2027 after a comprehensive design and tender process is completed in 2026.
